“Yes!” Isabella screamed. She knew it! Who wouldn’t want to get out of this hellhole? Her assumptions were right and she couldn’t contain her excitement. She still wondered how people lived their lives being wretched and evil at the same time. “Yes!”

From the corner of her eyes, she saw someone come out of the shadows and so she turned.

Grace, twelve or thirteen, looked really scared. With narrowed eyes, she stared at Isabella. Isabella motioned for her to come close but the girl didn’t move.

So she went to her and drew her into a tight hug. “You are my blessing, Grace”, Isabella chirped excitedly. “I’m going to take good care of you. You won’t lack anything; I will make sure of it”. She hugged her tighter and then she suddenly stopped and looked back at the woman.

As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized she had given herself up. She wasn’t supposed to make them know that they were also doing her a favour in the transaction that was about to happen. She was their God-sent helper and that was more than enough. Considering all they had done to her, it was a miracle that she was even listening to their woes.

She cleared her throat and let go of the girl. The mother was not sure of what to make of all the excitement, but she was glad her plea did not get a no. “I will never be able to repay but I’m eternally grateful for your help”, Aunt Salma said. She turned to her child, “Go with your aunt and never come back here. If I have a need to see you, I’ll come for you. Do you understand me? Promise me. The girl did.
