It is one week today since I got to the UK and so much has happened. Now I understand why my husband has been so stressed out. The fine man is under a lot of pressure. Living, schooling and working in the UK is no easy feat. As an immigrant with a student visa, one has to work extra hard to meet up with school work and work outside for some cash to stay afloat. Moreso, if you are an immigrant with a student partner visa, life is harder. This is a country where there is a system that works and what this means is that tax money is used appropriately and to have access to the amenities, one needs to pay bills.

I didn’t understand the pressure my husband was under at all; infact there is no way I could have understood. I have to be here to see things for myslef to understand anything. I know that he is a strong man but there is only so much a person can bear. There’s the school fees to pay, there’s school work, there’s family back in Naija to cater for and then there is work at the restaurant; work that often goes unappreciated. But he does it all and still stands. Talk about real life superheroes.

Well, if I have to recount things that I have happened in a week, I would have to just give highlights. First, I have joined my husband at his “aunty’s” restaurant and I have seen some places too. Then, I went to the post office at Uxbridge some days ago to get my BRP thingie and I got a UK SIM today. I’m making progress with working at the restaurant and I have been almost everywhere on the internet searching for another job. Maybe I’m being a little impatient; it’s only been week.

It has been one week and things are looking up. Let’s keep the optimism and see where this takes us.
